Styling your bedside table? Here are 4 inspiring ideas to make your bedside look Insta-worthy.

Bedside tables are an essential part of our bedrooms but it’s easy for them to become a dumping ground, littered by piles of books we’ve started reading but haven’t finished, notes of thoughts at 2am and bits and bobs. However, by paring it down to what you need and a few indulgent extras, you can turn your table into a feature. Combined with a light source for reading, either above on the wall or a table lamp, these thoughtful additions should help keep your bedside looking stylishly Insta-worthy all year round.

Set the mood

Bedrooms aren’t just for sleeping, so make sure yours is an inviting place to unwind when you’re relaxing. A luxurious scented candle will make the room smell fantastic even when it’s not lit, and looks indulgently elegant, too. It’s also the perfect height to balance out taller items, such as lamps or vases, and lower accessories, such as bowls or trays. Make more room for it by stacking books horizontally or swapping them for a handy reading app, such as Blinkist, which is packed with 15-minute snippets of inspirational non-fiction.
‘If you’re going to burn a candle, make sure it is an aromatherapeutic one,’ explains Fay Pottinger, co-founder of Scentered. ‘The essential oils will fill the room with a gloriously calming fragrance and, when used as part of a steady, repetitive bedtime routine, will help you wind down and signify to your body that it’s time to sleep. I love the new Scentered Sleep Well candle – it’s a sophisticated floral lavender blend that harnesses the relaxing and soothing therapeutic benefits of lavender, chamomile, palmarosa and ho wood. It does just what it says!’

Choose the right clock

There’s no reason for useful accessories to compromise your display, so look for an alarm clock that’s gorgeous to wake up to as well as being functional. If you prefer classic pieces, look for a traditional-style alarm clock, or for a sleek arrangement, a modern alarm equipped with Bluetooth, DAB and a USB port, so you can have more flexibility on what music you listen to and how. ‘There’s nothing better than waking up to the sound of your favourite tune,’ says Rachel Cowle, Head of PR and Marketing at Roberts. ‘Radios are the perfect accompaniment to a bedside table setting. Not only does a Roberts Radio add style and a smart focal point to your room, it also delivers amazing stereo sound, creating a crisp and refreshing wake-up call, whatever music you prefer.’
Look for an alarm clock that complements your bedroom colour scheme or is clad in a neutral wood finish or simple black or white. For a quirky twist, you could try playing with scale and using an oversized wall clock propped up at the back instead.

 Decorate and display

Harmonious smaller additions add interest and colour to a display, so be sure to layer up your bedside table. For example, a pretty frame for your favourite photo is will bring personality to your display, or, if you have space, try a couple of coordinating frames in different sizes. Mirrored or metallic trays and bowls make perfect spots for jewellery, miniature bottles of scent or even your mobile phone, while reflecting light for a glamorous feel. ‘Trinket dishes are the ultimate balance of beauty and function,’ says Aiko Phillips, Brand Marketing Manager at Sass & Belle. ‘As stylish as they are practical, they are the perfect solution for displaying all your favourite sparkly things. We love them as the perfect bedside table accessory for storing your everyday wear jewellery overnight.’
Add a stylish succulent Having something natural in your bedroom, whether it’s flowers or a plant, is an easy way to brighten a space with colour and texture. Succulents are a good idea for forgetful owners as they need minimal care, come in colours ranging from deep green to those with flecks of pink or blue, and can sit in a mini terrarium or be potted as a cluster in a bowl or larger pots. Plus, as they like the warm, dry air inside our homes, they won’t make a mess by dropping leaves or petals. Just make sure they have plenty of daylight or place them in a sunny spot.
