Why is velvet the biggest bedroom trend right now?

Velvet – intrinsically luxurious, irresistibly tactile and available in every shade from soft creamy neutrals to sumptuous jewel tones – it’s hard to find a fabric that’s a more perfect fit for your bedroom. Not only does it catch the soft lighting of a bedroom beautifully, the once heavy, fussy material has had a major style reboot in terms of both colour and composition, so it’s simpler than ever to create a decadent vibe. Choose one of the latest modern velvets that are more hardwearing and easy to keep looking gorgeous and your bedroom will always have an elegant and inviting look.

We've recently increased our House Fabric range to include over 20 new fabulous velvets, to make it even easier to bring a touch of luxury to your boudoir. And to get your creative juices flowing, we've put together some simple ways you can introduce velvet into your bedroom.
Start simply with cushions and throws
Nothing says luxury more than a beautifully made bed piled high with cushions and a plush throw but opting for your soft furnishings finished in velvet can add an extra edge. Not only will velvet add an instant feeling of warmth and texture, its range of rich shades means it’ll coordinate or contrast with whatever colour scheme you prefer. For example, soft grey and pretty pale pinks are ideal for a minimal, neutral bedroom, while a mix of bold jewel tones, such as cobalt, emerald and fuchsia, work together effortlessly.

Bring luxe to your bed
For real glamour, choose a fully upholstered velvet bed and unleash your inner maximalist. Whether you prefer traditional deep buttoning or a more contemporary style, the short, dense pile of velvet makes every colour feel more vibrant and accentuates curves, turning your bed into the centrepiece of the room. As a completely velvet-clad bed comes with the wow factor built in, it’s best to keep bed linen minimal and layer up with some calmer, cosy fabrics, such as mohair, brushed cotton and chunky wool knits. Alternatively, try updating your existing bed with a stunning velvet upholstered padded headboard – the effect will be similar but it’s easier to change if you fancy an update.

Style up with a statement chair
Velvet furniture is a huge trend but if the thought of investing in large pieces, such as sofas or a set of dining chairs seems like a big step, a single upholstered chair is a great way to go, such as this fabulous Loha Velvet Armchair in Green by Oliver Bonas.
