Renovating or updating your bedroom can be a daunting prospect. With all the choice out there, it's often difficult to narrow down your decisions to create the perfect bedroom that reflects your own personality and style.

Interior Designer and TV interiors expert Sophie Robinson knows a thing or two about bedroom styling. She shares her top 10 tips with us on how to create the perfectly dressed bedroom.
1. Make your bed work hard
Remember that the bed is the focal point in the room. Choose a statement headboard and dress your bed to impress with gorgeous bed linen.
2. Nothing is less relaxing than looking at clutter and mess
It’s essential that you get a grip of your bedroom storage. This might mean having a regular chuck out and taking a pile of hardly-ever-worn clothes to the charity shop or investing in some clever storage. Under bed storage is a great place to store your out of season wardrobe.
3. To scatter cushion, or not to scatter cushion?
Personally, I feel a bed looks unloved and bare without some cushions to dress it. Either go for a medley of complementary patterns or plains but if you’re more minimalist go for just two oversized, around 50 x 50cm, cushions in a gorgeous fabric. Great for sitting up in bed drinking tea too!
4. A bedroom needs to feel as good as it looks.
Think about selecting super soft fabrics like silk, satin, pure cotton, linen and velvet for furnishings.
5. Go for soft carpet or fluffy rugs underfoot
A soft carpet or rug can help to stabilise the temperature in a room, absorb sound and make your bedroom more comfortable to walk around. And it's a treat for your toes first thing in the morning!
6. Choose the right scent for your room
One of my favourite things is scented candles or a diffuser in my bedroom. I find rose and geranium particularly balancing.
7. Style up your bedside tables to look shoot worthy
Not just a place to charge your phone, plop a book or a glass of water. Take a moment to make your side tables look chic with fresh flowers, a candle and maybe a few favourite framed photos.
8. Lighting is key in a bedroom
Ditch harsh overhead lighting in favour of bedside lamps and wall sconces. LED tape is great in shelving units or even behind the headboard.
9. Thoughtful Positioning
Think about positioning your bed opposite a window with a good view. Failing that hang a large piece of artwork or a gallery wall of favourite pictures for you to enjoy while you’re relaxing in bed.
10. Finally, invest in a great pair of PJ’s
You wouldn’t want your bedroom to outdo you now, would you!
