Access Guide | Will my bed and mattress fit up the stairs?

We rely on our customers to assess whether the product ordered will make it to the bedroom. If in doubt, please email us any measurements and photos (taken standing as far back as possible, showing the full floor-to-ceiling perspective) to [email protected] and we can advise. We may also ask for customers to sign a damage waiver form if there is a risk of marking walls, bannisters or damaging any customer property.
About the product

 The largest products we sell and which can present access challenges are:

- Super king size (180 x 200cm) and sometimes king size (150 x 200cm) mattresses - in particular the Perendale (pillow top), Swaledale, Teesdale and Wensleydale.
- Super king size and sometimes king size versions of our largest headboards - for example, Camelia, Holly, Lupin, Rose and Burdock Tall.
- Super king size divan bases (180 x 100 x 35cm)

Dimensions for all of our products can be found on the relevant page for that product on our website. Our bed frames, divans and ottomans are delivered in pieces which are then assembled in the bedroom by the delivery team (unless agreed otherwise) - see the diagrams on our website (on the relevant product page).
Main Access Issues

1.) Insufficient gap between the stairs and over- hanging ceiling as you turn into the stairs or on the way up.

What you need to measure:

 The shortest distance from where the ceiling meets the wall down across the staircase to the nearest step in the staircase (see arrow). Note: this is not the vertical measurement (dotted line), but at 90 degrees to the angle of the staircase.

 You need minimum:
 - 180cm gap for a super king size mattress
 - 150cm gap for a king size mattress.
2.) Tight turnings in a narrow staircase around a bannister or ‘newel’ post.

 What you need to measure:

 The diagonal distance across the turn in the staircase allowing for the depth of the product, which could be as much as 30cm.

 You need minimum:
- 200cm for a super king size headboard with wings
- 180cm for a super king size mattress
 - 170cm for a king size headboard with wings
- 150cm for a king size mattress.

3.) Insufficient width on a landing when turning 180 °

What you need to measure:

 The width of the staircase landing.

 You need minimum:
- 200cm for a super king size headboard with wings
- 180cm for a super king size mattress
 - 170cm for a king size headboard with wings
- 150cm for a king size mattress.

4.) Unable to get a mattress into a lift

What you need to measure:

 The height of the lift door / entrance, AND the diagonal measurement across the floor of the lift.

You need minimum:
- 200cm height or diagonal distance for a super king size winged headboard. Assuming door entry height of at least 200cm (6’ 6”):
 - 180cm diagonal for a super king size mattress
- 170cm diagonal for a king size headboard with wings
- 150cm diagonal for a king size mattress.
Measuring inside a lift
What can I do if I think access will be too tight?

 Mattresses

Order one of our mattresses that can be rolled up:
- Galway, Drysdale, Borderdale: these are delivered as standard in vacuum-packed, rolled-up form.
- Southdown or Montadale: please ask for the rolled-up version when you order (by phone or email)
- Wensleydale, Teesdale, Swaledale and Perendale: these cannot be rolled-up and are delivered flat, as actual size.
- Order a zip & link mattress: available in all models and sizes from king size (150cm x 200cm) upwards.

Beds

- Please call us on 03333 201801 to discuss the sizes of our different headboards.
- We can remove the wings from the winged headboards for delivery purposes.
- Divan bases: we can make king size and super king size divans in 4 pieces instead of the standard 2 pieces.
 - We can split the ottoman slatted frame into two pieces for delivery.

 In extreme situations, a balcony or window delivery can be quote for and organised using a specialist third party with appropriate equipment and personnel. Additional costs will apply. Please note this is not part of our standard delivery service.
